Diocelina Duarte-Diaz, a 36-year-old woman of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically lost her life on December 6, 2015, in Del Valle, Texas. She was fatally shot by her estranged husband, Antonio Diaz-Jaimes, at their home in the 100 block of Scrappers Cove. The incident occurred during a heated domestic dispute, and Duarte-Diaz was found unresponsive on the driveway of their residence.
Antonio Diaz-Jaimes, who was 50 years old at the time, was arrested and charged with murder shortly after the
incident. According to court documents, the couple was in the midst of a divorce, and Diaz-Jaimes had called his wife and daughter to pick him up after getting a flat tire. Upon their arrival, a confrontation ensued, during which Diaz-Jaimes retrieved a gun and shot Duarte-Diaz. The couple's son, Christian Diaz, intervened by attacking his father with the gun, causing severe head trauma to Diaz-Jaimes.
Following the incident, Diaz-Jaimes was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin for treatment of his injuries. He was later booked into the Bastrop County Jail on December 11, 2015, with a bail set at $1 million. In 2019, Diaz-Jaimes pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He was credited with time served and had already spent over three years in jail awaiting trial.
