On February 5, 2016, in Dallas, Texas, 16-year-old Jesus Ricardo Hernandez, a Hispanic male, tragically lost his life while defending his mother, Claudia Corona, from her allegedly abusive boyfriend, 26-year-old Jesus Anthony Rodriguez. The incident occurred after Hernandez witnessed Rodriguez assaulting his mother. In response, Hernandez and others in the home intervened, pulling Rodriguez outside.
In the backyard, Rodriguez brandished a firearm, initially discharging a warning shot into the air. When Hernandez stood his ground, Rodriguez fatally shot him in the head. Hernandez was subsequently transported to Methodist Central Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, Rodriguez fled the scene, prompting the Dallas Police Department to issue a public appeal for information regarding his whereabouts. After several months, with assistance from the United States Marshal North Texas Fugitive Task Force, Rodriguez was apprehended and taken into custody. Upon arrest, Rodriguez confessed to the shooting during an interview at Dallas Police Department headquarters. He was subsequently booked into the Dallas County Jail, with bail set at $150,000.
Jesus Ricardo Hernandez was born on October 12, 1999, to parents Claudia Corona and Jenaro Hernandez. He attended W.H. Adamson High School in Dallas. His untimely death at the age of 16 was a profound loss to his family and community.
