Dereke Hayes, aged 44, was shot and killed on June 8, 2011, outside his home in the 5300 block of Claxton Avenue in the Walnut Park neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The incident took place in the early morning hours, and neighbors reported hearing gunshots before authorities were called to the scene. When the police arrived, they found Dereke suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to the hospital.
