On March 25, 2017, Juan Gerardo Casares, a 23-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Progreso, Texas, was tragically killed in a shooting incident on the 600 block of Martinez Street. The incident occurred around 3:54 a.m. when the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired and a man down. Upon arrival, deputies found Casares lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
