Ricki Deann Taylor, a 46-year-old woman from Palestine, Texas, tragically lost her life on June 23, 2017. Ricki was a beloved member of her community, known for her love of books, music, friends, and family. She is survived by her daughters Amanda Farris and Jeannie Rocha, her son Richard Taylor, and her fiancé Donny Malone.
On June 22, 2017, Ricki was reported missing by her boyfriend after she failed to respond to text messages and phone calls. Her truck was later found in the parking lot of Willie Meyers Park in Palestine. The following day, her body was discovered off Houston County Road 2120, between Grapeland and Latexo, with an autopsy revealing she had died from a single gunshot wound to the head on the evening of June 21.
Palestine Police Department swiftly launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of Ricki's ex-husband, Andrew Glenn Taylor, 50, on June 30, 2017. Andrew Taylor was taken into custody without incident and held on a $1 million bond. The investigation utilized cell phone records and other evidence to piece together the events leading to Ricki's death.
Despite the arrest, the case took a complex turn when the grand jury decided not to indict Andrew Taylor. The investigation remained open, and in September 2023, Houston County Sheriff Randy Hargrove announced the reopening of the case, citing new DNA test results that could potentially identify the true perpetrator. The sheriff also mentioned that there were three persons of interest: Ricki's fiancé, her father, and her ex-husband.
The case continues to be a focal point for law enforcement, with the Texas Rangers and the U.S. Marshal’s Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force assisting in the ongoing investigation.
