On the evening of July 30, 2017, Jason Ramon Jolley, a 42-year-old African American man, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in northeast Houston, Texas. Around 10:00 p.m., Jolley was seated on a concrete pillar in the parking lot of a car wash located at 11305 Homestead Road. At that time, a black sedan drove by and exchanged gunfire with individuals gathered in the parking lot of the nearby Big City Food store.
Caught in the crossfire, Jolley was struck by a stray bullet and pronounced dead at the scene.
Jason Jolley was known in his community for his kindness and generosity. He often volunteered at the Big City Food store, assisting customers with their groceries, and frequently helped elderly neighbors by driving them to medical appointments. His family and friends remember him as a selfless individual who always put others before himself.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators recovered over 23 shell casings from the scene, indicating the intensity of the gunfire exchange. Despite the evidence collected, no arrests have been made, and the suspects involved remain unidentified. The Houston Police Department continues to seek information from the public to aid in solving this case.
Five years after the incident, Jolley's family and community members gathered at the site of the shooting to honor his memory and call for justice. They released balloons and wore wristbands inscribed with "Justice for Jason," hoping to encourage anyone with information to come forward.
