On August 3, 2017, Jared McKnight, a 33-year-old African American male, was shot and killed inside a residence in Dallas, Texas. The house, located at 3215 Morgan Street, had previously been a daycare but had since become a location associated with illicit activities. McKnight was known to run the establishment, which was reportedly generating significant revenue.
On the evening of the incident, he was inside the house along with 59-year-old Thomas Dabney, another African American male, when both were fatally shot.
Authorities identified the suspect in the double homicide as Viantre Kimbrough. Surveillance footage from the night of the murders captured Kimbrough wearing a distinctive short-sleeve camouflage-style shirt and a necklace with a medallion on a long chain. Investigators believe that McKnight and Dabney were killed over financial disputes, as McKnight was allegedly making thousands of dollars daily from the operation. Despite knowing the identity of the suspect, law enforcement has struggled to locate him, and they continue to seek assistance from the public in tracking him down.
McKnight’s family, including his sister Jennifer Chambers, has spoken out about the tragedy, emphasizing that despite his involvement in certain activities, he was a beloved brother and father. He left behind four children, including a one-year-old. Chambers expressed her grief, stating that her brother did not deserve to die. Authorities have urged anyone with information about Kimbrough’s whereabouts to come forward, emphasizing that justice should be served regardless of the circumstances surrounding the victims’ lives.
