Xavier Jamal Olesko, an 18-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on September 18, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas. Xavier was born on December 27, 1998, and moved to Fort Worth where he attended Brewer High School and later Western Hills High School, where he played both football and basketball. He was known for his vibrant personality, contagious smile, and his dedication to serving in the children’s ministry at HighRidge Church.
On the day of his death, Xavier was hanging out with
friends at a home in White Settlement, a suburb of Fort Worth. He left the backyard to meet acquaintances in the front of the home, where he was fatally shot in the chest. The suspects, Sean Garrison , Tyee Garrison , Kyle Garrison , and Chase Allan Nix , were arrested and charged with capital murder. The police determined that the killing was not racially motivated, despite initial concerns raised by a Facebook photo of one of the suspects posing next to a Confederate flag.
The Garrison brothers were accused of planning to rob Xavier, and they allegedly lured him into a meeting with the intention of robbing him. The Tarrant County district attorney’s office accepted the case, and the suspects were held in lieu of bail. The tragic incident shook the community and highlighted issues of violence and robbery in the area.
Xavier Olesko's death was a devastating loss for his family, friends, and the community, who remembered him as an incredibly loved and promising young individual.
