Antonio Hernandez Romo, a 57-year-old Hispanic man from Miles, Texas, tragically died on September 21, 2017. Romo was born on November 19, 1959, in Saragosa, Mexico, and worked at Hudson Feed Yard. He was married to Delia Romo and had a daughter named Antonia Gonzales.
On the day of his death, Romo was found shot and beaten in a field about 10 minutes north of Miles. The investigation revealed that Thomas Gene Peiser, a 41-year-old man from Miles, was involved in Romo's death.
Peiser was arrested and charged with murder after Romo's body was discovered. Evidence found at Peiser's residence indicated an altercation had occurred, and Romo was severely injured.
Peiser was indicted on charges of murder, tampering with a corpse, and tampering with evidence. In November 2017, he was convicted on all charges and received three life sentences in 2019. The motive behind the murder was reportedly a dispute over a $600 paint job Peiser did on a trailer, which led to a violent confrontation.
The case shocked the small community of Miles and the surrounding county, as such violent crimes were rare in the area. Despite the tragic loss, Romo's family and friends continue to remember him fondly.
