Arturo Mario Lopez, a 39-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically killed on April 2, 2018, in Corpus Christi, Texas. The incident occurred in the London Estates subdivision, where Arturo and his wife, Miriam Lopez, were found dead in their home. The Nueces County Sheriff's Office initially responded to a call about a possible murder-suicide, but upon arrival, it was determined to be a home invasion. Arturo was found lying on the floor of the master bedroom, while Miriam, 38, was found on the bed.
Both had been shot multiple times. The couple's son, who was home at the time, hid in a bathroom and later identified one of the intruders as "Trebzz".
The investigation revealed that six men were involved in the home invasion and subsequent murders. The suspects, identified as Trebor Campbell Wheeler, Robert Angel Lopez Jr., Adrian Olivarez, Ausencio Acosta Jr., Jordan Gosson, and Ismael Castillo, were charged with capital murder. The motive behind the crime was a planned robbery, as the suspects believed there were drugs and a large sum of cash in the Lopez home. Acosta, who was related to the Lopezes' son, provided the group with directions and details about the house layout.
In March 2022, four of the six men charged in the murders accepted plea deals. Trebor Wheeler, Robert Lopez Jr., Adrian Olivarez, and Ausencio Acosta appeared in the 94th District Court to plead guilty to various first-degree felony charges, including aggravated robbery, organized criminal activity, and murder. In exchange for their guilty pleas, the capital murder charges were dismissed. Wheeler was sentenced to 20 years for each charge, Lopez to six years, Olivarez to 10 years, and Acosta to 14 years, all to be served consecutively.
Jordan Gosson, another suspect, decided to take his case to trial, which was scheduled for late May 2022. Ismael Castillo, the last of the six men, was already serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for a separate murder. The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings highlighted the tragic loss of Arturo and Miriam Lopez and the impact on their surviving children.
