Odin Tyler Painter, an 8-year-old boy from Ponder, Texas, tragically lost his life on May 16, 2018. Odin, along with his siblings Caydence Nicole Painter, age 6, and Drake Alexander Painter, age 4, were killed in a horrific incident at their home. The perpetrator was their mother's ex-husband, Justin Painter, who also fatally shot her boyfriend, Seth Richardson, before taking his own life. The sole survivor of the incident was Odin's mother, Amanda Simpson, who was injured but survived the shooting.

The incident occurred early in the morning when Justin Painter arrived at the home and opened fire, resulting in the deaths of the three children and Seth Richardson. The Denton County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Justin Painter was the gunman responsible for the murders. Amanda Simpson, in a Facebook video posted after the incident, revealed that she had spoken to Justin Painter the day before, and he had expressed a desire to reconcile, which she declined.

The community responded with an outpouring of support for the grieving family. Neighbors held a vigil near the family's home, leaving stuffed animals, crosses, and prayers for Amanda Simpson and her children. The tragic loss of Odin, Caydence, and Drake deeply affected the community, and their memory continues to be honored by those who knew and loved them.

This devastating event led to a thorough investigation by the Denton County Sheriff's Department, but no further arrests or litigations were pursued as the perpetrator was deceased. The case remains a somber reminder of the impact of domestic violence and the importance of community support in times of tragedy.
