On July 24, 2018, 16-year-old Regan Pfaff, a female student at Montgomery High School in Conroe, Texas, tragically lost her life. She was killed in an apartment at the Anatole at the Pines complex while taking selfies with a loaded gun that accidentally discharged, striking her in the head. The incident occurred around 4 p.m., and Regan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Matthew Tyshaun Davis, a 19-year-old from Austin, was charged with felony murder and felony manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. He was held on a $1 million bond. Another individual, Joseph Hayden Wilson, also 19 years old from Willis, was charged with felony tampering with physical evidence and felony possession of a controlled substance. Wilson was held without bond.
The Conroe Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, and both Davis and Wilson were taken into custody. Davis was seen leaving the apartment before police arrived, and it was reported that he fled the scene approximately an hour before calling the authorities. The investigation continued as detectives returned to the scene to collect additional evidence.
Regan's family, who lived in Alaska at the time, received an outpouring of support from friends, family, and even strangers, who helped them travel to Texas for the funeral. Her father, Tom Pfaff, expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the need for justice, stating that Regan was murdered for no reason by individuals who showed no remorse.
The case highlighted the dangers of handling firearms irresponsibly and the devastating consequences that can result from such actions. The community rallied around Regan's family, and efforts were made to raise funds to support them during this difficult time.
