On May 20, 2012, Stephen Martin, a 30-year-old resident of San Francisco, was assaulted during an altercation in Sharon Meadows, Golden Gate Park, after the Bay to Breakers race. Martin, who had attended the event dressed in a troll costume along with a group of friends, got into a confrontation with another group of about 12 individuals.
