On May 20, 2012, Stephen Martin, a 30-year-old resident of San Francisco, was assaulted during an altercation in Sharon Meadows, Golden Gate Park, after the Bay to Breakers race. Martin, who had attended the event dressed in a troll costume along with a group of friends, got into a confrontation with another group of about 12 individuals. This other group included men wearing white and red 49ers jerseys and women in purple clothing, with one of them in an orange tutu.
