Joe Andrew Trevino, a 27-year-old man from Austin, Texas, was fatally shot in the head on March 3, 2019, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Trevino was driving away from a disturbance in a parking lot on Ayers Street when several shots were fired at his vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries later that day.
The incident began when Trevino and another person got into a dispute in the parking lot.
As Trevino was driving away, the shooter, later identified as 39-year-old Derek Parra, opened fire on the vehicle. Surveillance footage captured a suspect leaving the area, who was seen wearing a red T-shirt, red tennis shoes, and dark jean shorts. The Corpus Christi police released photos and video of the suspect in hopes of gathering information from the public.
Following the shooting, a warrant was issued for Parra's arrest. Parra was later found and arrested by U.S. Marshals in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was charged with murder and aggravated assault. However, in November 2021, Parra was acquitted of the murder charge but found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Trevino's family and friends have been vocal about seeking justice for his death. They organized a benefit luncheon to raise funds for his funeral expenses and have also set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs. The family continues to hope that the person responsible for Trevino's death will be brought to justice.
Trevino was remembered as a selfless person with a warm smile who always lit up the room. His girlfriend, Cecily Ramirez, described him as always happy and loving. The loss has been deeply felt by his family and friends, who continue to seek closure and justice for his untimely death.
