Carl Dee Lueck, a 46-year-old male from Cleveland, TX, tragically died on May 22, 2019, due to a gunshot wound to his upper left chest. The incident occurred at Lueck's residence in the Trinity River Lake Sub-Division in Liberty County, following a domestic conflict. Lueck was the boyfriend of Isaiah Jacob Kopeski's mother, and the conflict escalated when Kopeski, an 18-year-old male, was working on his truck in the front yard.
According to reports, Lueck came out of the house yelling
and charging at Kopeski. In response, Kopeski grabbed a 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun and pointed it at Lueck. Lueck taunted Kopeski by saying, "You don't have the guts to pull the trigger," to which Kopeski responded by firing a single shot that struck Lueck. The incident was reported to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office at approximately 7:58 p.m., and upon arrival, deputies found Lueck deceased at the scene.
Isaiah Jacob Kopeski was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder and possession of a prohibited weapon. The investigation revealed that the domestic conflict had been ongoing, and Kopeski had been planning to move his truck to his grandparents' home to de-escalate the situation. The bond for Kopeski was set at $1,020,000 for the charges.
The case was investigated by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, and Justice of the Peace Judge Cody Parrish conducted an inquest. Lueck's body was transported to the Jefferson County morgue for autopsy. The investigation continued to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
