Michael Spike Haynie, a 63-year-old homeless man, was shot and killed by a security guard on June 18, 2019, outside Sun Washateria in southeast Houston. Haynie, also known as Spike, was a member of the Urban Animals roller skaters group and was described by friends as funny, a lover of music, and a gentleman. He had chronic back pain, which led to him losing his job and ultimately living on the streets.
