The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Paul Avenue near the intersection of Arena Street. According to reports, the shooting began inside Sanchez's vehicle. After being shot, Sanchez collapsed on the street and was subsequently taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The Lufkin Police Department issued a murder warrant for Kevin Lopez, a 27-year-old male from Lufkin,
in connection with the shooting. Lopez, who has ties to the Beaumont area, fled the scene along with another man. The third man present during the incident was not considered a suspect. Lopez is described as 5'5" tall, weighing around 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, and tattoo "sleeves" on both arms.
