Aaija Smoker, an 18-year-old woman from Duncanville, Texas, tragically lost her life on October 5, 2019. She was found dead in an apartment in the 200 block of East U.S. Highway 67. The circumstances surrounding her death were determined to be a result of a robbery gone wrong. Smoker was shot and killed during the incident.
Following the incident, law enforcement authorities launched a thorough investigation.
By December 2, 2019, three youths were in custody in connection with Smoker's death, while a fourth suspect remained at large. The suspects included Cornelius Lydell Broadway, 17, of DeSoto, Jeromey Lemar Young Jr., 17, of Dallas, and a juvenile female from Dallas. Capital murder warrants were issued for Broadway and Young, both of whom were held on a $500,000 bond. The juvenile female was also charged and taken into custody.
Despite the arrests, the investigation continued as authorities sought to locate the fourth suspect and gather more information about the motive and circumstances of the crime. The Duncanville Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, worked diligently to bring justice for Aaija Smoker and her family.
