Matthew Scott Mason, a 40-year-old white male from Newton, Texas, was fatally shot on December 11, 2019. The incident occurred at a residence off FM 2626 in Newton. According to reports, the Newton County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call around 8 p.m. regarding a man being shot. Upon arrival, deputies found Mason with a gunshot wound on his left arm. He was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of the gunshot wound.
