On February 19, 2020, Juan Carlos Olvera, a 35-year-old Hispanic male from Rio Grande City, was tragically shot to death in Garciasville, Texas. The incident occurred on Loma Blanca Road, where Olvera was found lying in the middle of the road with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities were alerted to the scene by 911 callers who reported hearing gunshots and seeing a body in the road.
Two vehicles were seen leaving the scene: a black pickup truck and a white passenger vehicle.
The Starr County Sheriff's Office launched a homicide investigation, and Texas Rangers were called in to assist. Witnesses reported seeing a black pickup truck with three individuals who were cooperating with authorities. The white vehicle was later found abandoned near a river. Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved.
The community was deeply saddened by Olvera's death, and Hernandez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City handled the funeral arrangements. The investigation continues as authorities seek justice for Juan Carlos Olvera.
