Jose E. Aguilar, a 21-year-old Hispanic male from Corpus Christi, Texas, tragically passed away on May 29, 2020. He was fatally shot in the 800 block of Bloomington Street in the Molina neighborhood. According to the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office, Aguilar died from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m., when Aguilar got into an argument outside and was shot shortly after.
The suspect, described as a Hispanic man around 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds with a distinct scar across the bridge of his nose, fled the scene.
Following Aguilar's death, the Corpus Christi Police Department launched an investigation. On June 3, 2020, CCPD officers went to a home in the 2000 block of Rockford Drive to question Eric Galvan, a person of interest in Aguilar's murder. During the encounter, Galvan grabbed a handgun and fired at the officers, who responded by opening fire. Galvan was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The District Attorney, Mark Gonzalez, mentioned that it was possible Galvan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the struggle with police. The case was presented to a Nueces County Grand Jury for further investigation.
The CCPD placed three officers involved in the shooting on administrative leave while the investigation continued. The officers included Senior Officer Charla Hemerly, Detective Crispin Mendez, and Officer Alyssa Hernandez. The investigation aimed to determine the circumstances surrounding Aguilar's death and the actions of the officers involved.
This tragic event has left the community seeking answers and justice for Jose E. Aguilar, whose life was cut short at such a young age.
