John Lewis Carter Jr., a 24-year-old male from Dallas, Texas, tragically lost his life on September 10, 2020. He was found shot multiple times at the Bonita Gardens Apartments on Fordham Road. The Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.

Deshawn Antoine Gray, a 36-year-old man, was identified as the primary suspect. According to police reports, Gray admitted to being involved in an altercation with Carter during an attempt to purchase cocaine. During the struggle, Carter allegedly pulled out a gun, prompting Gray to respond with gunfire. Gray was later hospitalized and subsequently arrested and charged with capital murder.
In addition to Gray, two other suspects, Laquita Cota Stewart and Embray Harrison Taylor , were identified and charged with capital murder in connection with Carter's death. While Stewart was arrested, Taylor remains at large.
