Antonio Edward Robinson, a 39-year-old Black man from Fort Worth, Texas, was tragically shot and killed on September 27, 2020. The incident occurred in front of his duplex, where he lived with his girlfriend and three children, aged 9, 3, and 2. The shooter, Edward Murray, a 57-year-old white man, was reportedly upset about toys left on the sidewalk by Robinson's children.
This conflict escalated when Murray retrieved a hammerless revolver from his home and fired three shots at Robinson without provocation.
Murray's actions were deemed unprovoked, as neither Robinson nor his girlfriend, Ashley Lacy, had any weapons or made physical contact with Murray before he fired. Robinson was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Murray fled the scene but was arrested the following day at his sister's home near Lake Whitney.
The case drew significant attention, with Robinson's family and the community calling it a hate crime. Murray was charged with murder and later found guilty. In November 2023, he was sentenced to life in prison and fined $10,000. During the trial, Murray admitted to drinking vodka before the encounter and expressed remorse for his actions.
