Rachel Marie Reeder, a 27-year-old woman from Fort Worth, tragically lost her life on October 22, 2020, in Hillsboro, Texas. She was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Walmart in Hillsboro. The incident occurred around 6:04 p.m. when a confrontation led to the discharge of a firearm, striking Reeder while she was in a vehicle. Despite being airlifted to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waco for treatment, she succumbed to her injuries later that evening.
The Hillsboro Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the shooting. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect fleeing the scene in a black crossover-style sport utility vehicle heading south on the IH-35 Frontage Road. The Hillsboro Department of Public Safety continued to search for the gunman while urging anyone with information to come forward.
Five days after the shooting, on October 27, 2020, authorities arrested a suspect in connection with Reeder's death. The suspect was taken into custody at the Grove Apartments in Waco and was processed at the Hill County Jail. Once arraigned on a murder charge, the suspect's identity was to be revealed.
