On June 28, 2015, authorities in St. Louis, Missouri, were called to a scene of violence in the city's West End neighborhood. Police officers arrived at the 1200 block of Hodiamont Avenue, near the intersection with Suburban Avenue, where they discovered the aftermath of a shooting. There they found 20-year-old Cartez Johnson, a male resident of St. Louis, suffering from critical gunshot wounds.
According to reports from the scene, Johnson had been shot in the head and leg. He was transported to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. In the same incident, a second victim, a 45-year-old male, was also struck by gunfire but survived the attack. Investigators determined that the shooting occurred in the afternoon, prompting an immediate homicide investigation by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
