Roshainah Tompkins, an 18-year-old woman from Prairie View, Texas, tragically lost her life on July 25, 2021. She was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Tarod London, who was later found guilty of the crime and sentenced to life in prison. Tompkins was a recent graduate of Hempstead High School and was described by her family as a sweet, kind, and loving person who cared deeply for her brother, kids, and cousins.
On the day of her death, a concerned friend contacted authorities after Tompkins
failed to respond to messages. This led to the discovery of a blood trail at the Crescent Pointe Apartments in College Station, which ultimately led to Tompkins' body inside London's apartment. She had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators later found London's car, which contained an AR-15 rifle with Tompkins' blood in the passenger seat and floorboard.
During the investigation, London attempted to evade arrest and even tried to take a Texas Ranger's gun. He claimed self-defense, but the jury rejected his claim and convicted him of murder. The trial revealed that Tompkins had planned to see London on the day she was killed, and prosecutors used cell tower data and traffic camera footage to establish London's movements before and after the murder.
The case concluded with London receiving a life sentence on May 6, 2024. Assistant District Attorneys Kristin Burns and Ryan Golden stated that while no number of years can account for the loss of a life, the jury's verdict makes the entire Brazos Valley safer.
This tragic event has left a lasting impact on Tompkins' family and community, who continue to seek justice and remember her as a beloved daughter, sister, and friend.
