James was a devoted father to his three sons, James Earl Roberson III, Christian Matthew Roberson, and Chance Nehemiah Roberson, and often spoke about how proud he was of them. James Earl Roberson Jr. was killed just before 4 a.m. near the Flora Motel, located in the 2800 block of Fort Worth Avenue in Dallas. Surveillance footage captured the suspect approaching James' Jeep with his arm extended, holding a firearm. The suspect, described as a Hispanic male approximately 5’7” tall and weighing between 150-160 pounds, had a bald head and no visible facial hair. According to Dallas homicide detectives, the suspect entered James' vehicle, and an altercation ensued before he fired a shot, fatally wounding James. The suspect then fled the scene in a tan Nissan Altima, driven by another individual.
Authorities have been working to identify the suspect, who is believed to go by the street names "Corn," "Junior," or possibly "Peanut." He is reportedly from the West Dallas area and is known to frequent motels and gambling establishments along Fort Worth Avenue. Dallas police have urged the community to come forward with any information that could help bring justice to James' family. Detective Raleigh Williams has emphasized the importance of identifying the passenger who was in the tan Nissan Altima at the time of the incident.
