Shailene Velez, a 21-year-old woman of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically died on November 14, 2021, in McKinney, Texas. She was the common-law wife of Joel Torres, who claimed that her death was accidental. According to Torres, he was trying to clear a jammed bullet from his semi-automatic handgun when it accidentally discharged, fatally shooting Velez.
