She was shot in the desert area near the 14400 block of Montwood Drive while spending time with friends, including her boyfriend, Efrain Orozco. The group was engaged in recreational shooting when the incident occurred. Initially, Orozco claimed that Tobias accidentally shot herself, but further investigation revealed that he had pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger.
