Chris Alan Nix, a 38-year-old man from Colorado City, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on April 29, 2022. Born on February 24, 1984, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Chris was raised by his grandparents, Jimmie and Dorothy Nix, who adopted him when he was just a baby. He learned the value of hard work from a young age and began working in the oil fields at the age of 14.

On the day of his death, Chris was involved in an altercation with Nicholas Leyse, a 43-year-old man, near Lake Colorado City. During the altercation, Leyse shot Chris once in the chest, and Chris was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Leyse was taken into custody shortly after the incident and charged with murder, aggravated assault, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was held in the Mitchell County Jail on bonds totaling $165,000.
The incident occurred on Lois Lane, and Sheriff Patrick Toombs of Mitchell County confirmed that no other injuries were reported during the altercation. Leyse also fired a shot into an occupied mobile home, but fortunately, no one else was harmed. Chris is survived by his wife, Amy Nix, and their three children: Nathan, Ryan, and Natalie Nix, all of McAlester, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his sister, Deanna Woodard, of Ft. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Tedrick and Jennie Nix, his adoptive parents, Jimmie and Dorothy Nix, and his grandmother, Hannah Brumley.
Chris was known for his love of music, fishing, skydiving, and carpentry work. He was a devoted family man who would give his children the world when he could. His sudden death has left a significant impact on his family and community, and a memorial service was held in his honor on May 10, 2022.
