Cesar Moreno-Pompa, a 30-year-old Hispanic male from Dallas, was tragically killed in a road rage shooting on October 23, 2022, in Garland, Texas. Moreno-Pompa, a construction worker, was traveling on I-635 when a dark-colored SUV cut him off. Moreno-Pompa then passed the SUV, and the suspect, later identified as Davante Chatman, pulled up alongside Moreno-Pompa's vehicle and fired multiple shots, killing him instantly.
The incident was captured on video by Moreno-Pompa's passenger, who
was recording a mirrored video on his cell phone at the time. The video showed the dark-colored SUV approaching Moreno-Pompa's vehicle, providing crucial evidence for the investigation. Garland Police Department detectives conducted a detailed investigation and identified Chatman as the shooter. Chatman, a delivery driver from Dallas, was arrested on May 18, 2023, more than six months after the shooting.
Chatman has been charged with murder in connection with Moreno-Pompa's death. Additionally, he has been linked to two other road rage incidents in Garland, including an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury to a driver on January 12, 2023, and another aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on May 12, 2023. Chatman is currently being held at the Garland Detention Center without bond.
The Moreno-Pompa family has expressed relief and a sense of justice following Chatman's arrest, although they acknowledge that it cannot bring Cesar back. Moreno-Pompa's sister, Oralia Moreno, has been vocal about her determination to see justice served and to prevent other families from experiencing similar pain.
The Garland Police Department continues to investigate the case and has urged anyone with information to come forward. The arrest of Chatman has provided some closure for the family, but the loss of Cesar Moreno-Pompa remains a painful reminder of the devastating impact of road rage incidents.
