Reserve Deputy Sheriff John Wesley Wright, aged 25, tragically lost his life on August 16, 1988, in Rogersville, Tennessee. He was a United States Navy veteran and had served with the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office for only one year. Wright was accidentally shot and killed by another deputy while assisting with the apprehension of an escaped convict. The incident was a result of an inadvertent accidental discharge during the operation.
