On a tragic day in Hartsville, Tennessee, the life of 32-year-old Alisha Renee Mondoni was cut short. On Saturday, February 11, 2017, Mondoni and a man named James Turner were discovered in a vehicle on New Harmony Road by a neighbor who immediately alerted authorities by calling 911. Both occupants of the vehicle had sustained gunshot wounds. While Turner was pronounced dead at the scene, Mondoni was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The
investigation into the double homicide, led by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Macon County Sheriff's Office, quickly pointed to two individuals as the persons responsible for the deaths of Mondoni and Turner. The suspects were identified as Rodney Garrett and Keithandre Murray. In the days following the incident, Garrett was apprehended in Nashville and subsequently transported to the Macon County Jail, where he was booked on two counts of First Degree Murder. His alleged accomplice, Keithandre Murray, was added to the TBI's Top 10 Most Wanted list as law enforcement sought information on his whereabouts.
Further investigation revealed a tragic case of mistaken identity and unintended victims. The intended target of the shooting was reportedly James Turner's nephew, Steven Turner Jr. Keithandre Murray had gone to James Turner's residence in search of his nephew. When he was unable to locate him, he proceeded to shoot and kill James Turner and Alisha Mondoni, who were in the driveway at the time. Rodney Garrett was identified as having aided Murray in the commission of the murders.
The legal process that followed brought a measure of justice for the families of the victims. In 2019, a Macon County Criminal Court jury convicted Keithandre Murray on two counts of first-degree premeditated murder for the killings of Alisha Mondoni and James Turner. The following year, his accomplice, Rodney Garrett, was found guilty on two counts of facilitation of first-degree murder for his role in the deaths.
