In the quiet town of Bell Buckle, Tennessee, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in an act of domestic violence. Carly Ann Hassett, a 29-year-old female, was killed on March 1, 2017. She was a bright and beautiful person, known for her ability to make people laugh and her kind and spiritual nature. Though not originally from Tennessee, she had grown to love the state, particularly the natural beauty of the mountains and the changing light and shadows in the hills.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1987 and had also spent time in Florida, where she attended modeling school during her high school years.
Her life was taken by her boyfriend, Jared Partin, who was 36 at the time. The incident occurred at their home on Millersburg Road. Partin, reportedly in a haze from a meth and opioid binge, shot Hassett in what has been described as a final act of domestic violence. She was pronounced dead at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Those who knew her said she died while trying to protect two children she cared for as if they were her own.
Following the shooting, Jared Partin was arrested and charged with murder. He was held without bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. In February 2020, Partin pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Carly Hassett. This plea brought a legal conclusion to the case, confirming his responsibility for her untimely death. Her family and friends remember her as an extraordinary and loved individual whose life was tragically ended.
