On a July evening in 2018, the life of 27-year-old Jamie Scott Barron of Gadsden, Alabama, was cut short in the parking lot of a Hampton Inn on Highway 66 in Sevierville, Tennessee. The male victim was discovered in a truck with a fatal gunshot wound to his head and was later pronounced dead at LeConte Medical Center.
The incident, which occurred around 11:41 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018, also involved another individual, 28-year-old James Douglas Moyer of Piedmont, Alabama.
Moyer was found in the same parking lot with a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. The Sevierville Police Department's investigation determined that a single 9mm Glock pistol, found at the scene, was used to shoot both men and that no one else was involved in the altercation.
Following an investigation by the Sevierville Police Department, the evidence was presented to the District Attorney General's Office. In November 2018, it was announced that no charges would be filed against James Douglas Moyer. The District Attorney's office concluded that the evidence supported the claim that Moyer had acted in self-defense, and therefore, there was no probable cause that a crime had been committed. The case was subsequently closed without any arrests.
