On August 28, 2018, Jimmy Shelton, a 44-year-old man from Maryville, Tennessee, was fatally shot at his home on Beaver Drive. The incident involved Sean Patrick Foley, a 24-year-old Army veteran, who claimed he shot Shelton in defense of his girlfriend, Miranda Goddard. According to Foley, he overheard a conversation between Shelton and Goddard, which led him to believe that Shelton was sexually abusing her. Foley then confronted Shelton with a gun, resulting in the shooting.
