In the small town of Hampton, Tennessee, the life of 64-year-old Steve Mack Miller came to a tragic end on October 9, 2018. His death was the final chapter in a story that had taken a dark turn just a month prior.
On September 7, 2018, a violent altercation unfolded in the parking lot of a local McDonald's. In the midst of this dispute, Alan Lyle Jansma was shot and killed.
Following an investigation by the Carter County Sheriff's Office, Steve Mack Miller was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Jansma's death.
After a period of incarceration, Miller was able to post bond and was released from the Carter County Detention Center. He had a court appearance for his preliminary case, which was scheduled to continue in November. However, the legal proceedings against him would not move forward. On the evening of October 9th, deputies were called to a residence on Mountain View Circle in Hampton where they found Miller with a severe, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
