In the summer of 2019, the life of 19-year-old Dominick Hull was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire in Southeast Memphis. On the afternoon of June 23rd, police responded to a shooting on Barkshire Drive in the Hickory Hill area. There, they discovered Hull in the front passenger seat of a vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence of that day was not limited to a single victim.
Shortly after the discovery of Hull, two other men, aged 20 and 21, arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. One had been shot in the stomach and was in critical condition, while the other had been shot in the arm. They had been in the same vehicle as Hull. One of the surviving victims identified the shooter, leading to a swift arrest in the case.
The following day, police arrested 18-year-old Melik Bell in connection with the triple shooting. The investigation suggested the incident stemmed from an attempted robbery during a planned marijuana transaction. In February 2020, a grand jury indicted Bell, who was 19 at the time of the indictment, on multiple charges. These charges included first-degree murder for the death of Dominick Hull, two counts of attempted first-degree murder for the injuries to the other two men, attempted especially aggravated robbery, and attempted aggravated robbery.
