In the spring of 2020, the community of the Howell Apartments in North Memphis was shaken by a sudden and violent act. On the evening of Friday, May 15th, shots rang out in the courtyard of the complex located in the 2200 block of Howell Avenue. When the chaos subsided, 53-year-old Keith Brooks, a male resident who was known to many as a property manager and security officer for the apartments, was found suffering from gunshot wounds.
