In the summer of 2020, the quiet community of Jacksboro, Tennessee, was shaken by the tragic death of a longtime resident. Dannie 'Boone' Green, a 70-year-old male, was found deceased at his residence on Thursday, July 30, 2020. Green was a United States Army veteran and a retiree from the Town of Jacksboro Street and Sanitation Department. He was known by friends and family for his enjoyment of woodworking, building, gardening, and feeding chipmunks.
Investigations by the Campbell
County Sheriff's Office into Green's death quickly revealed a grim sequence of events. Authorities released details indicating that the incident was a murder-suicide. Investigators reported that 64-year-old Debra Lynn Owens, who resided with Green, allegedly shot and killed him. Following the shooting of Green, Owens then took her own life.
The incident occurred at their shared home on Queener Road in Jacksboro. As the perpetrator, Debra Lynn Owens, died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the death of Dannie Green. The case was closed following the determination of it being a murder-suicide.
