A tragic night unfolded in Memphis, Tennessee, leaving one man dead and another facing serious charges after a dispute inside a nightclub escalated to gunfire. The life of Lawrence Jimmy Williams Jr., a 49-year-old male, was cut short on October 22, 2021, at the Indulge Lounge near Hickory Ridge Mall. The evening, which should have been one of leisure, turned into a scene of violence that would forever alter the lives of those involved.
The incident began with a seemingly minor argument
between Williams and another patron, 26-year-old Keython Johnson. According to investigators, the verbal altercation quickly became physical. In a sudden and violent turn of events, Johnson allegedly produced a handgun and shot Williams multiple times. The shots proved to be fatal, and Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. The chaos did not end there; a friend of Williams was also struck by the gunfire and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. In a strange twist, Johnson also sustained gunshot wounds to both of his legs.
Following the shooting, law enforcement quickly identified Johnson as the sole shooter. He was taken into custody after seeking treatment for his injuries at a local hospital. The investigation into the deadly encounter led to significant legal consequences for Johnson. A Shelby County Grand Jury handed down an indictment, charging him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
