In the late afternoon of a Monday in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a violent altercation shattered the peace of a quiet neighborhood, leaving two women dead. Laura Undis, a 60-year-old woman, was in the front yard of a home on Cavalier Drive when an argument with her former boyfriend, 72-year-old Lloyd T. Martin Jr., escalated with tragic consequences.
The dispute, stemming from a failed relationship, turned deadly when Martin allegedly produced a pistol and began shooting.
The altercation drew the attention of a neighbor, 67-year-old Virginia Deirdre Sheen, who bravely attempted to intervene. Her heroic act cost her her life, as Martin is accused of shooting her as well. Both Undis and Sheen sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a local hospital, but neither survived their injuries. In the immediate aftermath, courageous bystanders were able to detain Martin until police arrived at the scene.
Lloyd T. Martin Jr. was taken into custody by the Hendersonville Police Department and subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault. During a preliminary hearing, graphic and emotional testimony was presented, including from the husband of Virginia Sheen, who witnessed the horrific events unfold. The lead detective in the case also testified that Martin had confessed to the shootings. The case was ultimately bound over to the grand jury.
