Lois Ann Swenson, a 76-year-old Caucasian woman, was found dead in her Minneapolis, Minnesota home on June 13, 2012. Friends became concerned after not hearing from her for several days and contacted the police. Responding officers discovered her body in her bedroom. An autopsy later revealed that she had died from multiple blunt force injuries, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Known for her kind and generous nature, Swenson was a retired school teacher who dedicated her life to peace
and social justice issues. She was an active community member, known for her love of gardening and her willingness to help others, often opening her home to those in need. This generosity, however, may have tragically led to her death. Investigators have stated they believe the person responsible for her murder was someone she had been helping.
Police identified a person of interest in the case, a man whom Swenson had reportedly been assisting financially and had allowed to live in her home. It is believed that he became angry after she stopped giving him money and asked him to leave. Despite having a suspect, law enforcement officials have not made an arrest, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to bring charges. They have made public appeals for more information, specifically encouraging at least one person close to the suspect to come forward with what they might know.
A reward was offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. However, to date, the murder of Lois Ann Swenson remains unsolved, and no arrests have been announced. Her community continues to remember her as a peaceful and selfless woman who fell victim to a senseless act of violence.
