Abdirahman Hassan Haji-Ahmed, a 26-year-old man, was shot and killed on October 30, 2013, in downtown Minneapolis. The incident took place just before midnight at Bobby and Steve's Auto World near Washington Avenue South. Haji-Ahmed was found in the driver's seat of his car, having been shot multiple times in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Evidence indicated that the shots were fired from the back seat of the car, and a torn piece of cloth believed to be from the shooter's jacket was found nearby. Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting.
Despite initial leads, including surveillance footage and interviews with witnesses, no arrests were made for years, leaving the case unsolved. Haji-Ahmed's death shocked the Somali community in Minneapolis, especially as it was part of a larger pattern of violence affecting young Somali men in the area.
