In the cold of a Minneapolis December, a burst of gunfire shattered the morning quiet in the 2600 block of Penn Avenue North, setting in motion a tragedy that would end a life. It was around 10 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014, when the city's ShotSpotter system registered the sound of gunshots, prompting a police response.
