In the summer of 2012, a family was forever shattered by a senseless act of violence. Kyle Ashley Haley, a 30-year-old male, was walking alone in the 3900 block of Post Road in Trainer, Pennsylvania, shortly before midnight on the Fourth of July. It was then that an unknown assailant or assailants shot him in the head at close range. He was discovered lying face up and unconscious, but still breathing, and was rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on July 5, 2012.
Kyle, who was born on April 1, 1982, in Lancaster, had been living with his uncle in Trainer at the time of his death, just a short walk from where he was shot. He was employed by a lumber and woodworking company in Marcus Hook. Described by his family as a kind, respectful, and generous person with an infectious smile, he was a devoted father to his two children, a son and a daughter. His mother recalled him as a family-oriented man who took on the role of the man of the house from a young age. Having been released from prison less than three months prior to his death, Kyle was looking for a second chance at life and to be the father he wanted to be for his children.
The investigation into Kyle Haley's murder is ongoing. Shortly after the shooting, two youths were identified as persons of interest, and they have continued to be persons of interest in the years that followed. Despite a warrant sweep in Trainer and neighboring towns several weeks after his death, where numerous individuals were questioned, no arrests have been made in the case. The Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division and the Trainer Police Department continue to seek information from the public regarding his unsolved homicide.
