In the fall of 2018, a domestic dispute in a quiet Trainer, Pennsylvania, home escalated into a tragedy that would ultimately claim the life of 33-year-old Keith Jackson. On September 25th, Jackson was fatally shot in the basement of the West 13th Street residence he shared with his girlfriend, Doritisha Lyons, and her son, Nasir Hassan Saleem Jr. The Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office would later rule his death a homicide, caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
The events leading to
the fatal encounter began with an argument between Jackson and Lyons that had started the previous evening and reignited that morning. The source of the conflict was reported to be Jackson's infidelity. The verbal altercation turned physical when Jackson allegedly pushed Lyons and pulled her hair. In the aftermath of this confrontation, Lyons went downstairs. It was then that the sound of gunshots echoed through the house. Lyons reported seeing her son, Saleem, holding a handgun at the bottom of the stairs.
In the wake of the shooting, 19-year-old Nasir Hassan Saleem Jr. fled the scene, sparking a manhunt that concluded with his arrest by U.S. Marshals in the nearby city of Chester in October 2018. He faced serious charges, including criminal homicide, first and third-degree murder, and possession of an instrument of a crime.
The legal proceedings that followed painted a grim picture of the final moments of Keith Jackson's life. During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence suggesting that Saleem had advanced on Jackson while firing, delivering a final, fatal shot to the head at point-blank range. While Saleem's defense team argued that he had acted in self-defense to protect his mother, the prosecution contended that Jackson posed no immediate threat to Lyons at the time of the shooting. In October 2021, a jury convicted Saleem of third-degree murder. He was subsequently sentenced to serve 27 to 54 years in prison for his role in the death of Keith Jackson.
