In the summer of 2013, the life of a young Chester man was abruptly cut short, leaving a family in mourning and a community searching for answers. Karone York, a 20-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on June 11, 2013. The incident occurred in the 2100 block of Madison Street in what became the city's seventh homicide of the year. Known for his outgoing and joking nature, Karone was the father of a 2-year-old daughter.
On the day of the shooting, it is believed that Karone was involved
in an argument, possibly concerning a girl, shortly before the fatal encounter. He was rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland but was pronounced dead. The investigation into his death was handled by Chester Detective Nelson Collins and Delaware County Detective Edward Kazlo. Despite interviewing several witnesses and pursuing various leads, the case grew cold.
To this day, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Karone York, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case officially remains unsolved, leaving his family, including his mother with whom he was close, without closure. His funeral service, a Janazah service, was held on June 15, 2013, at Masjid As Sabiqun, and he was interred at Haven Memorial Cemetery in Chester Township. The memory of Karone York is kept alive by his family and friends, who remember a young man with a vibrant personality.
