Holly Slone George, a 36-year-old woman from Derry, PA, tragically passed away on December 1, 2013, after being shot nine times by her estranged boyfriend, Arthur Leroy Whitfield III. The incident occurred in George's home while she was watching television with her 15-year-old daughter. Whitfield, who had a history of criminal behavior, including a prior conviction for rape, broke into the house and ambushed them. George managed to push the gun away and yell at Whitfield, but he continued to fire, ultimately causing her death 18 days later in a Pittsburgh hospital.
Following the incident, Whitfield was charged with homicide, burglary, illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, and carrying a firearm without a license. During the preliminary hearing, George's daughter testified about the terrifying ordeal, and the judge ordered Whitfield to stand trial for attempted homicide and aggravated assault. Additional charges of criminal trespass, discharging a firearm in an occupied structure, reckless endangerment, and simple assault were also filed against him.
In June 2016, Whitfield pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a mandatory life prison sentence. He admitted to the crime in court, acknowledging that he barged into George's home and shot her multiple times. The prosecution argued that Whitfield's actions were premeditated and that he had a history of violent behavior.
