On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 13, 68-year-old Carolyn Mary Kern was found deceased in her vehicle on McNeeley Road near Strope Road in Jefferson Township. She had sustained a fatal shotgun wound to the chest. The focus of the investigation almost immediately turned to Carolyn's estranged husband, 62-year-old Dennis Kern.
